Hawa Sanja
Biography:
In DKB recording sessions, Hawa Sanja, a dynamic and generous Bom speaker in her mid-seventies, captivated listeners—Bom-speakers and their Mende-speaking descendants alike—with her dramatic delivery of stories, commentary and reminiscences in Bom. The most fluent female Bom speaker with whom the DKB met in Sogbaleh, Hawa Sanja led the group of Bom speaking women in traditional singing and dancing, and greeted DKB visitors with grace and warmth.
